Hi, I’m Summers White, co-founder of Pearl River Pastures. My journey into regenerative farming started long before I even knew what that meant. I grew up in New Orleans, but weekends, holidays, and any chance I got, I was at my family’s farm in Mississippi. The farm was a place of freedom—hunting with my family, exploring the land, and just being in nature. I didn’t know it then, but those early experiences planted the seed for what would eventually become my passion and purpose. In high school, I started facing some health issues, which made me think more about the connection between food and well-being. Then, during my time at the University of Alabama, while studying Communications with a minor in Environmental Science, I learned about regenerative farming. Everything clicked—I realized how much food quality and land stewardship mattered, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was meant to be part of this movement. After college, I tried working office jobs, but I quickly knew it wasn’t for me. I needed to be outside, working with my hands, doing something that truly mattered. That’s when I decided to join the WWOOF program (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) and moved to Virginia to work on a farm. That experience confirmed what I already felt deep down—this was the path I wanted to take. I returned home with a big idea: to build a poultry processing facility that could support local farmers and give people better access to high-quality, pasture-raised meat. I applied for a grant, got it, and got to work. Around that same time, I met Rob, who shared my vision and work ethic. Together, we co-founded Pearl River Pastures, built the processing facility, and moved onto the farm full-time to bring this dream to life. Now, as the third generation on this land—but the first to live here full-time—I’m committed to improving it, restoring its health, and producing the best food possible for our community. Pearl River Pastures is more than just a farm; it’s a way of life. We believe in raising animals the right way, healing the land through regenerative practices, and making nutrient-dense food accessible to families across Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and the Gulf Coast. I hope you’ll follow along as we continue to grow, learn, and share this journey. Thank you for being a part of it!
With over 22 years of dedicated service in the United States Marine Corps, I honed extensive skills in operations and logistics, providing the foundation for disciplined leadership and strategic planning. During my service, a motivation emerged to provide healthier, higher-quality food for my family and contribute positively to the environment. This motivation led me to transition into regenerative agriculture as the Co-Founder of Pearl River Pastures. This field aligns deeply with my respect for nature and commitment to sustainability. At Pearl River Pastures, we focus on pasture-based farming practices such as rotational grazing, cover cropping, and holistic land management to restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and combat climate change through carbon sequestration. Passionate about making a tangible difference, I strive to lead by example, promoting regenerative practices that ensure environmental sustainability and community resilience.
